AnduinOS 2.0.0 has been released. AnduinOS is an Ubuntu-based Linux distribution featuring a GNOME desktop customised with a variety of extensions. This major new release brings extensive under-the-hood changes while maintaining the usability and customisability of the desktop. "Today, AIURSOFT Limited is announcing the general availability of AnduinOS 2.0.0. The project is now officially maintained by AIURSOFT Limited (Hong Kong), marking its transition from a solo-maintained effort to an internationally backed ecosystem. When we started this project, like many downstream Linux distributions, we used to rely on a series of complex imperative Bash scripts to modify an existing system image. While functional, it was fragile and difficult to maintain and upgrade. For version 2.0, we took a step back and rebuilt the entire foundation from the ground up. AnduinOS 2.0 is no longer a simple "remaster". It is now assembled entirely from scratch using a clean debootstrap and chroot pipeline, driven by our custom-built, declarative packaging toolchain (aosproj and apkg). The OS core has been meticulously modularized into 56 standard .deb packages across three tiers - Hard Replacements (e.g., overriding ubuntu-desktop), Soft Overrides (e.g., apt-config) and Branding/Capability extensions." The project provides a smaller ISO file than its parent with each supported language split into a separate ISO. Snap support, which is included in Ubuntu, has been removed from AnduinOS.

This version is derived from the long-term supported Ubuntu 26.04: "Today, AIURSOFT Limited is thrilled to announce the beta release of AnduinOS 2.0.0. This is not just another system update; it is a fundamental, ground-up architectural rewrite of our entire operating system. Listening closely to community feedback regarding maintainability and package management, we have completely reimagined how AnduinOS is built, distributed and maintained. We are officially leaving the era of 'remastering' behind and stepping into the era of true distro engineering. AnduinOS is now assembled within a pristine, sandboxed debootstrap and chroot pipeline. At the heart of this revolution is the introduction of aosproj and apkg - our proprietary, XML-based declarative domain-specific language and automated compilation toolchain. The AnduinOS team has announced the release of AnduinOS 1.4.0, the latest version of the project's Ubuntu-based Linux distribution that offers a familiar and easy-to-use experience for anyone moving to Linux. The new version is based on Ubuntu 25.10 and uses GNOME 49 as the preferred desktop. "AnduinOS has always been built on Ubuntu and one of our core commitments is to keep pace with Ubuntu's release cycle. Whenever a new version of Ubuntu is released, we synchronously roll out a new version of AnduinOS. Now, just over a month after the release of Ubuntu 25.10 'Questing', this version brings a massive number of user experience improvements, such as the complete removal of X11, the new Pytxis terminal, GNOME 49, Linux 6.17, and sudo-rs, among others. These exciting changes significantly enhance the user experience and now, they have fully landed in AnduinOS. Therefore, we are extremely proud to announce the official release of AnduinOS 1.4. This version is built on the latest compilation of Ubuntu 25.10 and is designed to catch up with the latest upstream changes." AnduinOS is an Ubuntu-based distribution which provides a GNOME desktop which has been themed and styled to resemble Windows 11. The project's latest release, AnduinOS 1.3.0, is based on Ubuntu 25.04 and ships with GNOME 48. "AnduinOS 1.3 is released. This version is highly recommended [because] we first added an app store (based on Flatpak) in it. Upgraded base system - the foundational system has been updated from Oracular (Ubuntu 24.10) to Plucky (Ubuntu 25.04). Added a new shortcut Super + V to toggle the clipboard history. Pre-installed GNOME Software to support installing software from the software store. Pre-installed Flatpak to support installing software from the software store. Fixed Firefox localization issue.
