ClearOS

Last Update: 2017-08-26 01:22 UTC

ClearOS is a small business server operating system with server, networking, and gateway functions. It is designed primarily for homes, small, medium, and distributed environments. It is managed from a web based user interface, but can also be completely managed and tuned from the command line. ClearOS is available in a free Community Edition, which includes available open source updates and patches from its upstream sources. ClearOS is also offered in a Home and Business Edition which receives additional testing of updates and only uses tested code for updates. Professional tech-support is also available. Currently ClearOS offers around 100+ different features which can be installed through the onboard ClearOS Marketplace.

Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view:
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "kdelibs" and "plasma-desktop" packages and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

I've used clearos since its clarkconnect days and helped with translations, themes and modules. It was the best firewall from 1999

i am using it since about 2008 , it was i think version 5 or something like that back then .
i first used it as a virtual machine on a vmserver 2 on xp machine (i know ,dump setup ), managing my home network.
at about 2013 i set up a system with a dual core atom and 4gb ram with 6 disks as a server and router for two wifi (one free ) and a wired network and of course the filtering of the internet traffic .
i am very pleased with the futures and the functions . it has a server almost for anything with a one click installation and uninstallation . organizer, mail , router , dns server , cloud services , firewall , charts , details about network traffic , file server , multimedia server i havent found a need for a server that clearos didnt cover . even virtual machines and asterix is possible to host.
i also used it for test purposes as an adsl bonding solution , with very satisfying results .

i also have to mention that i am using the free version (now i have 6.9 version -mid 2017-) so the purchased one must be a carefree longtime solution .

I used version 6 for a while a few years back, it was awesome.
I could see everything that was happening on my network in real time, spectacular !
The add on tools were also great.
I am giving it another try with 7.3.
