Linux Kodachi

Last Update: 2019-08-26 02:10 UTC

Linux Kodachi is a Debian-based distribution which can be run from a DVD or USB thumb drive. The distribution filters all network traffic through a VPN and the Tor network, obscuring the user's network location. The distribution attempts to clean up after itself, removing traces of its use from the computer.

Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view: Major packages only (52) All tracked packages (226)
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

I've been using Kodachi in VMs for a while now, and even have it installed on another machine. I've used it since 6.0 and I'll say this, there are scant few distros that put so much into them. It has a mountain of stuff many will never even use, but options are there preloaded. If security is your concern, I have to say, I like Kodachi better than Tails. It's simple to get going.. just install into a VM, use from USB (intended for) or install it onto metal. There are some videos on Youtube of Warith al Mawaali (creator) explaining all of it's features, and it's quite excellent. I'd suggest watching it before getting started, as you'll find it both interesting and useful.

A Most Excellent anonymity distro.

I have worked with a number of Linux security / anonymity distros and this is by far my favorite;
I was really impressed that it worked with my YubiKey right out of the box - no modifications needed. That ROCKS!
Overall - It has a very nice look and feel.

Having the most popular VPN startups automated and a editable config file is terrific.

One suggestion on the VPN selection and initiation.
I would like to see the option to have the commercial VPN select the fastest available link by country - not just a random server as currently defined in the config file.
Perhaps I will work on automating the script to work with NordVPN.

I like this enough to pay $$ to help support the effort.

Great job Team Kodachi!

Cheers to all.

Man what a good distro, just what I was looking for.

Run it on the SSD so I'm down a few points but well ......

Just remember to change the default kodachi password after installation :)
