Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view: Major packages only (52) All tracked packages (226)
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

Tiny Core Linux is wonderfull!

Once I needed to have a flash drive with OS, which will work everywere, and Tiny Core appears to be the most lightweight, fast and extendable at the same time.

One-touch making all your software to reside in RAM or on external (or internal) drive.
Perfect /home backup strategy.
Extremely flexible - flash drive can be booted with or without EFI, with the choices:
1. 32-bit system and software (4G for all).
2. 64-bit system and the same 32-bit software (4G per process).
3. Pure 64-bit system and 64-bit software.
Comprehensive boot options.
Several versions on the same flash drive (now i have 6.4.1, 9.0 and 10.0 on the same flash, with simply configurable boot menu).
Advantages are endless, and one of the main is the book "Into The Core", great one! If you want to try Tiny Core, read it first, it will open your eyes on how clear can be the system architecture. It can be downloaded from the project site.
Forum is very responsive.

The best way to learn Linux, i expect. Many thanks to Robert Shingledecker, founder, and developers team!

No GUI way to change keyboard map (language);
the boot menu contains many entries and low amount of description;
i see no way to install it on my HDD;
firefox-latest package i am unsure how to use it to setup FF
advantage is it is lightweight and appear to contains most important things in order to be useable

Thank you for this. It revived my 512mb ram, 30+gb hdd laptop.
I configured it with the latest firefox and VLC player and nothing else... a bundle of joy indeed.
It takes 45 seconds to boot. And once in the machine is quite responsive. The first time it launches the browser it do take a while (in seconds not mins though). Love it. I hope to make many more machines to tiny core. And the options are immense.

A big salute to the entire team. You guys rock!!!
